Denzel Washington is the type of major Hollywood actor that commands good performances from the rest of his cast. I can't think of a film where the cast around him comes up with poor turns, at least none in recent memory. Part of the reason that's the case is Denzel Washington's intensity and work ethic that he brings to the roles he plays. So naturally when a cast of unproven but eye-catching talent get hired to play roles opposite the future lifetime Oscar winner, it's reason enough to take notice. Last week we reported that Milas Kunis had been added to the cast of Washington's new film Book Of Eli, which already includes Gary Oldman as the antagonist. Now comes word that the star of the reportedly gleefully bloody Punisher: War Zone (opening this friday), Ray Stevenson (Rome, Outpost) has been signed on for the film. Stevenson is touted to play an assassin sent to dispatch Denzel Washington's character. If you're wondering what the film's about, it involves a figure who may hold a book that reveals the key to saving humanity in a postapocalyptic world. This is definitely a good bit of casting given that Stevenson is best suited for roles like this, but I remain more interested in the kind of role Denzel Washington will play in this film. If it's action based, we're likely to see something completely new and unexpected from the Academy Award winner, and the last time that happened, we got Alonzo Harris.
